SAGE

SAGE was the first safety net for LGBTQ elders. Founded by lesbian and gay activists and aging service professionals in 1978 as Senior Action in a Gay Environment, SAGE (now Advocacy & Services for LGBTQ+ Elders) is the world's oldest and largest nonprofit addressing the needs of LGBTQ elders.

The Pitch: “Hey My Grandmother is a Lesbian”
At a time when newsrooms were not accustomed to being pitched stories about gay men and lesbians, Jay Blotcher and I devised a particularly proactive pitch — and it worked!

The Hey-My-Grandmother-is-a-Lesbian pitch netted SAGE a piece by New York Post by columnist Amy Pagnozzi that snowballed into more news coverage for the organization.
